State Representative Nancy Todd (D-Aurora) is the Colorado State Representative for District 41. She was elected in 2004 and is serving on the fourth year of her second term. Representative Todd is the Vice Chair of the State, Veterans, & Military Affairs Committee, as well as a member of the Education Committee. She has served on the interim Health Care Task Force, the Minority Success Task Force for Higher Education, the Workforce Development Council, Governor Owens’ Alignment Council for Education, the Commission of Higher Education, the Commission for Early Childhood and School Readiness, and the Sub Committee for Preparation and Transition for Governor Ritter’s P-20 Council. Colorado U.S. Senator Ken Salazar welcomed Representative Todd to serve on his Service Academy Nomination Review Board. Representative Todd currently serves on the standing Education Committee for Council of State Government (CSG West), as a state director for both Women in Government (WIG) and National Federation of Women Legislators (NFWL).
Representative Todd’s leadership is evident with her selection as a 2007 Fellow in the Flemming Leadership Institute, a program from the center for Policy Alternatives and is a 2008 graduate of the Foreign Policy Institute for State Legislators from the Center for Women Policy Studies. In 2007, she was awarded the Legislator of the Year from the Early Childhood and School Readiness Commission, the Friend of Home Care in Colorado Award, and a Champion for Mental Health from the Aurora Mental Health Center.
Representative Todd is a graduated of the 2006 Western Leadership Academy for the Council of State Government (CSG West). She was named as the 2006 Legislator of the Year for the Colorado University Health Sciences Center, the Colorado Community Colleges, and as an outstanding legislator by Aurora Mental Health. She was selected as one of two State Representatives from the United States to attend the 2006 International Institute of Religion and Politics in Rome, Italy.
In 2005, Representative Todd was invited to join the Colorado elected officials trip to Israel by the Jewish Community Relations Council to study agriculture, security, health care, government, and religious cultures. She also participated in the Women in Government International trip to Portugal and Spain, interacting with government officials regarding education and health care issues.
Representative Todd was a professional educator for twenty-five years in the Cherry Creek School District 5, and has lived in the Eastridge community in Aurora for over thirty years. In 2003, Representative Todd was awarded the Colorado Mother of the Year. She served as the literacy chairman of the National Board of American Mothers, Inc. and was recognized as the 2003 Patriot Educator of the Year by the American Legion. She currently serves on the boards of the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA), Ridge View Academy, a juvenile corrections/education facility, American Military Families, Fitzsimmons Veterans Home, and the Mile High Lung Association. She is a member of the Aurora Rotary Club, the Aurora Chamber of Commerce, American Association University Women, Greenwood Community Church, PEO, and a Star supporter for the Aurora Fox Theater.
Representative Todd received her bachelor’s in education from the University of Kansas in 1970 and a master’s in reading from the University of Northern Colorado in 1990. She has been married for 37 years to Terry, a retired teacher and retired Colonel in the Army Reserves. They have two grown married sons, one granddaughter, and a black Labrador retriever who loves to recycle.
